Welcome to ACES WEEKLY Volume 21, Week Six!
I've just made one of my rare trips to a museum. It was in a sunny place, with the tempting alternative presented to me of being outside its walls rather than inside! However, as is always the case in any such visit, being there made me realise how amazingly necessary it is to see the great works of heritage and past creativity that are so easy to forget about in the hustle of our workaday existence : fine porcelain and fantastic painting ; intricate tapestry and terrific typography ; such beauty to see... There's lots of prosletyzing from all quarters about the need to embrace fine art as a way of enriching existence, but nothing makes you realize the truth of that more than a trip to a good museum, anywhere, whether it's local, national, or international. Great stuff is everywhere to see. So, if you're like me - too lazy and nonchalant about the wealth around us to check it out more than once in a blue moon - change your ways! If you don't, museums will go the way of the libraries - closed due to lack of active users! And, as if that wasn't bad enough, the local authorities responsible for closing those doors into culture, will, sure as shootin', put the money they've saved into something much less inspirational - like an extension to the mayor's office... You wouldn't want that, would you..?
